Papua New Guinea XI clinch 50-over title
A Papua New Guinea XI remained unbeaten in the 50-over tournament that also featured a Singapore XI, Hong Kong XI and a Malaysia XI.
But the home team could not round-off the Twenty20 tournament that followed with a similar effort, as they lost in the final to a Malaysia XI.
In the 50-over competition played on a round-robin format, Papua New Guinea XI started off by beating Malaysia XI by 46 runs. The home team followed it up with impressive wins over Singapore XI (by four wickets) and a young and inexperienced Hong Kong XI (by 56 runs).
In the Twenty20 tournament that followed, Papua New Guinea XI made it to the final of the competition after remaining unbeaten in the league stage. In the final, Malaysia XI upset the home team to win the title.
Singapore XI finished third in the Twenty20 competition beating Hong Kong XI in the play-off match. A development Hong Kong XI, also scheduled to feature in the World Cricket League Division 3, did not win a single game in both the formats during the quadrangular tour
